Double-Decocted Münich Dunkel. Subtle roasted and biscuity malts, with a long, cold-conditioning process. Exceptionally mature.

This was another beer that I ordered on Tavour late last year, as I never had anything from Wayfinder before. I enjoy this style when it's done right and this was a good example of one as it had plenty of flavor, was quite malty, and easy to drink on a quiet spring day such as this one!
The pour to this was what I expected as it appeared a nice, dark chestnut brown with more than enough tan, bubbly head to offset that. Once that settled down, there wasn't any lacing to be seen as this was quite thin in consistency. A ton of dark bread, chestnut, and some biscuit was in the nose as the taste had a ton of malt underneath it. Some dark fruit and walnut emerged once this fully warmed up as the underlying hops felt quite German. Light floral notes were in the back as this was nicely carbonated and plenty slick - making for a dangerous beer when it came to ease of enjoyment.
Much of that had to do with the light amount of alcohol as I could hardly detect it. Same with the date on the bottom, as the writing was distorted. Anyone new to the style would be wise to seek this out as it was a clean beer that as stated on the label, was "mysteriously delicious"!

Cloudy brown leather colored body with a full beige head, spotted lacing. Caramel malt, dark yeast, and dried date in the smell. Taste adds earth yeast with tones of pumpernickel. Feel has high carbonation, sharp yeast atop thinner malt, moderate chew

Clear, dark copper body; dense, lively carbonation; thick head, dense sponginess, lasting. Nice toasted aroma bordering on roasted; nutty. Decent taste; light toasted malt flavor; mild to moderate hop bitterness. Medium body; slightly dry overall.
For a double-decocted lager, this beer seems a bit weak overall in flavor and mouthfeel. Good, just not anywhere near great.
Pouring temperature: 43 °F; canning info: DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN 11/23/22

Pours somewhere between amber and brown, lightly cloudiness, light brown and cohesive head that lingers as a thin film, never disappearing completely but slowly turning into a dense ring, no lace.
The nose is toasty, slightly nutty, doughy dark bread with some hints of sweetness, as it warms some minor noble hop presence.
Taste leans into the doughy dark bread, same toasty grain, low peppery hops on the finish; along with the same nuttiness, comes off as walnut skin.
Body is heavier side of light, slightly chewy, very creamy smooth carbonation; dry on the palette a low but noticeable bitterness.

Fairly lacy head, if a bit light. Hazy, amber brown body. Smell is sweet and malty; fresh baked bread, caramel, cola, and a hint of nuts. Taste follows the nose. Caramel and toasted bread in the body with cola on the finish, along with hints of nuts and coffee. Carbonation is moderate with a slightly dry finish. Quite good overall, and my only complaint is that the body is a bit watery, and certainly not as pronounced as the finish. However, that might actually make this a very sessionable, refreshing dark beer, if that’s what you’re after.

Pours a handsome clear russet or auburn brown with plenty of foam in the big wheat beer glass. Plentiful and fine-grained carbonation adds to the pleasure. Bread and grain aroma. Tastes like a grainy bock. Lots of roasted malt flavors. Dark edge with hints of burnt sugar and a dry finish..
Surprising how relatively few of this style I've reviewed. Well, this is one of the best. Roasted, nutty, and just sweet enough, with even a modest dose of bitterness. From the 16 oz can purchased at Bine & Vine. Dated 11/22/21.

Canned 11/22. Dark amber, clear and clean. Light head fades quickly fades away. Aroma is muted, mostly a pleasant beer-y nose. Dry taste for a Dunkel, carbonation is on the low side. Taste is malty and just enough bitterness to keep things in order but ends up a shade flat. A good, but not great beer.

Slam dunk-el. Medium lighter brown body. Crisp baked bread, light caramel, lighter floral notes, but not particularly bitter or sweet. Much balance and would be dangerous to have a case sitting nearby on a warm summer day.

16oz can
Pours over a finger of head into my Willi glass, just barely off white. Retention is eh, ok, below average. Initial lacing looks a little lazy. Body is a dark brown with hues of orange and some ruby. Very few bubbles coming up. Looks ok so far, nothing special.
Nose is bread, caramel, rich malt, sweet. Very very faint sulfur, not really an issue. Smells very nice.
Whoa, flavor is…disappointing. Not what I have come to expect from Wayfinder. Starts off with a big mineral punch, which is not to style. Continues with a just strait up watery flavor. Finishes with a little bit of malty sweetness, faint bread. I mean this doesn’t taste bad, but it really doesn’t taste like a Dunkel, not nearly enough flavor.
Carbonation is very high, minerally. Body has some decent weight to it, at least medium. A little bit of sweetness, but not for a Dunkel, and it actually finishes a bit dry. Bitterness is not very evident. Not an amazing mouthfeel.
Drinkability is fine. This tastes alright in a vacuum and it drinks well enough, it’s just the style expectations that make this experience very crushing.
Appearance turned out poor. Lacing was basically non existent.
Overall, not really sure what else to say. Flavorless, watery, over carbonated, dry, not a Dunkel at all. This is a rare miss from Wayfinder.

On tap at Wayfinder.
Dark brown with thin beige head with good retention and lacing this looks solid. Nose is wonderfully bready with toasted Munich, earthy hops, dough, toasted caramel. Clean. Palate opens bready but light, with toast, wonderful Munich malt character, mildly sweet with rich dark wheat toast and mild caramel. Mild bitterness with earth and a little green leaf. Drying on the finish with lingering earth, roast and bread. Very good. Very clean.
