Intense chocolate, fig and caramel aroma that drinks warmly and falls off the deep end. Maybe the most misunderstood variation, Baltic Porters were brewed as strong, lagered interpretations of their British Porter brethren and meant for trade among the region. They're rich, elegant and warming to the bone.

Matte black body with a finger of tan head, classic. It certainly smells the part, roasted cocoa, mild licorice and an emergent dried dark fruit. Taste as it smells, but leans into the cocoa and dark fruit sweetness more, but never loses the Earthy roast. Feel is malty and roasty, thicker but not heavy, smooth with character. Nice work here all around

Aroma wafts of fig and molasses, and body opens with a bitter bite of dark chocolate, fig, and burnt molasses shortly thereafter. Body opens up to caramel and raisins with a fuzzy, smooth body. Satisfying

Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into my snifter. Date stamp is 1/20/23.
The beer pours a dark coffee color with a dense beige colored head foaming up 4.5 cm, almost overtops my glass even with a gentle pour. the entire can doesnt fit due to the foam. This foam is very spongey in appearance. Foam recedes slowly to a surface covering throughout the sampling. nice dense lattice work when I swirl the beer or take a sip.
Aroma is roasted malts, rich dark chocolate and some slightly chalky hot cocoa powder. I also get a bit raisin note buried in the nose mixing with a faint molasses and some dark bread notes. No hint of the ABV here and also no hop character to speak of.
First sip reveals a medium body with very fine and slightly prickly carbonation. Texture is smooth and beer does leave a little stickiness on my lips. Pretty easy drinking for a bigger beer.
Flavor is roasted malt right off the bat, and this carries throughout. I do get some raisin and cocoa powder mixed in as well. Hints of molasses towards the finish, but the roasted notes come back and linger after the finish.
Never boozy and hops are not present as far as I can tell.
Quite a nice baltic porter that is dangerously drinkable for a 9% beer. glad to have tried it.

Canned 1/20/23. “Fall off the deep end” stamped on the bottom of the can

A Baltic Porter sent in a ninja BIF box by the legendary Snaotheus! I’ve been enjoying what he supplied me with so far, but I’m particularly excited for this one. When done well Baltic Porters are among my favorite styles. Let’s get into it

Pours almost completely pitch black with 2 fingers of frothy tan head that fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing

Oh yeah, the nose strikes an awesome balance of dark fruit and dark malt. I’m picking up on aromas of black cherry, molasses, dark bread, biscuity malt, fig, leather, cocoa powder, toffee, and light brown sugar

A bit less fruit forward in taste, but still malty and balanced. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting cocoa powder, fig, dark toast, toasted walnut, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, and light vanilla. The swallow brings notes of cocoa powder, black cherry, toffee, dark toast, toasted walmut, leather, light coffee, and biscuity malt

A medium full body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a chewy beer. Despite this, it finishes mostly dry

And we have a damn good one right here. Wonderful stuff

Poured into a nonic at fridge temp, and warming up.

Pours textbook porter dark black with a respectable tan head. 4

Aroma seemed on the lighter/gentler side with not much standing out aside from some malt and roastiness. Might be getting a cold. 3.75

Taste however more than makes up for it! Roasty, some light chocolate and fig fruitiness. Oh the fig! No idea how the brewery did this but it's an excellent and awesome adjunct I can't get enough of in it. Like an addicting fig Newton minus the overwhelming cookie/biscuit. (Haven't had one of those in about 18 years I figure) 4.25

Body is a solid medium I'd say, drinkable yet more filling, though no note of the 9% whatsoever, so I'd consider it a bit dangerous? 4

Overall I think this is my second Baltic porter and it's much more enjoyable than my first, and looking forward to more like it. 4

Pours the darkest of browns; backlit brings nice clarity, light brown head lingers for a few then dissipates to a thin ring around the glass.

Nose is rich in chocolate, some char, with a woody spice character and some graham cracker.

Taste is big on rich chocolate like the nose, this may sound weird but there is definitely something coconut like showing itself, finishes with a woody tannin aftertaste and roast.

Medium body but somewhat thin, very smooth; bitter char on the finish…this thing goes down very easy for its abv. The abv was slightly noticeable at first but as I drank it all but disappeared. This is a dangerous one if you don’t know it’s 9%.

exceedingly well done, as all of their lagers always are. cool to have this at the source too, this place rules! this is luxurious, not because its sweet, but because the texture is so elegant for such a robust and hefty brew, one of the best feeling examples of the style i can recall ever drinking, creamy but not heavy, frothy and drying and well conditioned, patiently lagered to be sure, with a silky smoothness, velvet on the palate, dry for the style, and just as satisfying as can be. close to black with high shine and more than an inch of tan head, thick and frothy and lasting, this thing looks wonderful! nose and taste of both dry bitter baking chocolate and organic high cacao dark chocolate, tons of deep grain nuance from rich tobacco to molasses to hickory hard wood smoke, and strong fresh drip coffee. bitterness outruns sweetness, and the lager yeast both has bready english character contributions at the end of this but also dries it right out, its so soft feeling, and more lively feeling than most of these. some lingering bitterness, minerals, and faint licorice to this too. this warms up amazingly well, and its so subtly complex and approachable for what it is, cant believe the alcohol is this high, its so well disguised here. i cant get enough of this one, i could sip this forever. a dreamy deep winter sipper, mouthfeel is memorable, i love it being so obviously a lager too. near the top of its class!

Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug. Canned around 1/3/22 it looks like.

Appearance: rich, super dark brown hue with brown highlights around the edges. Head is a finger of compact tan foam; overall it looks perfectly decent.

Smell: rich, bready, malty, and chocolatey. There's perhaps a bit of caramel in there too, and maybe a hint of vanilla. It's decent, if not super enticing.

Taste: more full-flavored than the aroma would suggest. There's bread and toffee here, along with some of the raisin and tobacco flavor I so love in a beer of this nature. The chocolate is present too, although pared back from the aroma. Really good!

Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a good level of carbonation and a very good creaminess indeed. Great!

Overall: while the aroma was not bad at all, it didn't grab me at the aroma, but after that things went uphill quickly. Very much enjoying this!

Tasty. Dark black body with an appealing tan head. Chocolate, slightly burnt roast and espresso. Crisp chocolate milk and a medium floral bitterness to balance it out. Medium bodied and creamy enough but still crisp and delicious.
