Double-decocted, richly imbued with deep caramel malts. Best enjoyed sludgingly slow. Burn your game plan.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice dark brown with an inch of head. The nose is SMOKE! Reminds me a lot of Schlenkerla. Some nice malts coming through. Burnt toffee.

The taste is fantastic. Toffee, smoke, charred wood, maple, leather. Really nicely integrated. Loving this one.

Beautiful Rauchbier - delightfully malty, nice nose, just the right amount of smoke, it's really hard to drink this slowly. I got this as an extra in a trade but if these guys were located on the East Coast I'd easily buy more.

Reddish brown pour that has a beige collar Earthy smoke leads, in delivery like the master German brewer schlenkerla, plus there are notes of leather, caramel, and smoky earth. Taste is much the same, more brown bread appearances, some smoky/earthy tones pushed up through the sip in a potent fashion. Feel is medium bodied, smooth, big caramel malts, and had a obvious smoky flair. Nice work here

Aroma is malty and carries a bit of the smoke inherent -- a sweet, bready smell, like a typical bock. The body opens with a persistent wave of smoke reminiscent of lapsang souchong or beef jerky with a strong reminder of sweet, malty bock. A great combination and a solid beer.

A Tavour Treat. Pours a dark brown color with a minimal head that disappears quickly. Aroma of roasted malts. Taste is spicy and smoky. Pleasant without any hoppy bitterness. An enjoyable brew.

Poured at fridge temp into a weizen glass.
Canned 1.27.23

Pours a dark brownish but has some light amber and dark copper tones up to the light and at the ends. Small and dense bubbled head that settled into a thin ring. 4

Light smoke aroma with noticeable caramel malts. 4

The level of smoke is perfect first of all. Not too strong and not overwhelmed by the caramel and slight nutty notes as well. The playful peek of booze actually compliments it even more. 4.5

Medium body, slight alcohol burn and even, but lighter carbo. 3.75

Overall probably my second favorite Rauch (compared to a local lichtenhainer) that is balanced and not too or overly smoked. 4.25

it was so rad to check this place out, been wanting to for ages, but seem to get to portand so rarely, a shame. the spot is dope, all the beer is next level, and this smoked bock really stood out to me, one of the more robust examples of the style ive had in a long time. deep amber color from the tap, a foamy inch of burlap colored head, nice retention and some web lacing as it drinks, definitely a little darker than most. the smoke character in nose and taste is awesome, really woodsy, wintery, fiery, and intense, yet without being acrid or lingering too long, its gorgeously well balanced by the other grain in here, and the lager yeast character (flavor and texture alike) play so well with the hefty smoke. it has more of that earthy alderwood character than the sweeter fruit woods, but im not sure which type of malt they roll with here, some caramelization to this, and a high protein vibe as well, old world mashing methods on full display to my senses. definitely woody as it warms, nutty like almonds, hints of honey and maple too, but this is only sweet enough to be balanced, it doesnt stay on the palate long, and i love the lager yeast being as appreciable as it is here. lots of body, a little meaty feeling, but clean and with good carbonation through it. smart beer, lovely execution, finishing notes of bacon, bran muffin, soil minerals, and red apple cider in high autumn. robust on the smoke but its just right with all the other elements. real cool example of the style!

Pours a cloudy, completely opaque reddish brown color. Thin, one to two finger off-white bubble foam forms on the beer then dissolves. No residual head remains after a moment or so. Quite bubbly. The aroma on this is like a campfire on a cool crips autumnal evening. Notes of smoke, hickory, brown sugar, and some caramelly malts comes across the nose.

Taste follows the nose with a prominent smokiness up front. Notes of hickory, wood, smoke and a roaring campfire come across the palate. Beyond that, there are notes of dark bread, brown sugar, toffee, and a light earthy spicy hop note on the back end. Feel is light to medium bodied, but comes across as a sipper, so it punches higher than its weight. Moderate carbonation. Dry finish.

Overall this was a very nice smoked bock - personally I am thoroughly enjoying drinking this. The smoke is prominent but perfectly done - and its all campfire without the smoked meats. This would be 1 or 2 for my favorite beer of the weekend.

The brewer calls this a "Smoked Bock" but it's hard to call it anything but a smoked beer. Sweet and strong. Huge nose of smoked malt. It's a pleasant scent and flavor that goes well with the substantial malty. The roasted grain and caramel flavor sustains the smoke well.

Flavors of apples. It's more fruit wood than bacon or campfire, fortunately. Endlessly fragrant. Remarkably smoky, but clean flavors and quite palatable. Lush and sudsy in the mouth. From the 16 oz can purchased from Elizabeh Station. Dated 3/29/21.
