what a wonderful beer! an awesome inclusion in a beer box from a buddy back east, i had not heard of these guys before and im now fully intrigued, seems like a lot of cool beer happening in this area. this is a gorgeously delicate and complex and well refined brew, seems more suited to a cork and cage bottle than to a little can, but its also something i can and want to drink several of, so maybe a generous packaging choice here for the consumer, but i do not know what this cost. really pretty label too. in any event, its a wild ale done with all new york ingredients, aged with cherries and dry hopped, its funky and dry and springy, just dead sexy! its rose pink in color, pretty deep saturation, a little less than fully clear but still bright, and with a fizzy white head that settles pretty quickly even though the beer stays very active, even effervescent the entire time i am drinking on it. the nose is funky brett, well established, farmy and rustic with very little tartness at all, and this fermentation profile is on full display in the taste too, really wild and old worldy, but cleaned up very well too, i love it! the cherry is tangy in the nose with a flash of sweetness in the flavor, seems to give off a hint of ripe raspberry too, and with the delicate dry hop, there is an almost vinous property to this, makes it even more springy, beer for rose season! i love that i can taste the earthy local grain base through the fruit and the funk, neither of which is overpowering in the least, and there is killer balance and depth to this, more and more nuance as it warms, but i can hardly let it, each sip hits beautifully, so dynamic, i wish i had more than one. its expressive in mouthfeel with big bubbles of carbonation, a very light body, and just a little twang on the finish before drying out. this was amazing with some very rare grilled wild king salmon and probably would be splendid in a number of food contexts. what a nice surprise this was, now i am very eager to try more from these guys and they are certainly on my radar now. not to be missed, crazy beer for a can, but it works. huge thanks to my friend for sending this out!
