Came in a standard U.S. pint glass. Dark brown color with no head.

It had a slight coffee smell. Behind that was an unpleasant sour smell.

Tasted like a strong, bitter coffee, then watery. A little roasted malt. The unpleasant smell came forward as a bitter/sour taste.

Lighter body and low carbonation.

A real disappointment. Watery taste with an off-taste. I asked someone else in my party what they thought of it and they shared the same type of off-taste traits.

Had this one at dinner on the last night in Destin, FL for aasher’s wedding! Served from tap into a sampler shooter. Poured a dark red brown with a half finger light tan head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of roasted malt, sweet malt, cream, and chocolate. The flavor was of sweet malt, roasted malt, cream, wood, and subtle chocolate. It had a light feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a pretty average brew. There really wasn’t much going on in this one that would shock and awe most beer drinkers out there which was rather unfortunate. The flavors that were there were quite subdued and made it very easy to drink ever for the non-beer drinker. Worth trying if you are there, but I wouldn’t go there just to do so.

Fantastic Porter. If you're in Destin, there's a ton of cookie cutter touristy places...make time to go to McGuire's. All the beer is AWESOME!!!

This beer is listed as an American Porter for McGuire's other location, but I think this much more closely fits the English style. Very reserved hopping and no over the top roasted malts. A mild smoke note, with some soft chocolate malt flavors wafting about. Finished with a slight huskyness that was not unpleasant. A slight tinge of grain that hinted of oxidation, but just barely there.

This beer arrived a lighter bodied dark brown with a light off white head. It looked like a draft root beer. It smelled of sweet milk chocolate and kind of reminded me of a milk stout. There was some ever so light roast to it as well. It tasted pretty good and I was surprised by it. It had a nice sweet chocolate flavor with light roast. It was lighter than most but was solid in its own right. It was a little thin for a porter but went fine with my meal. This restaurant is well worth your time if in Destin.

Pours a dark black color with a lighter brown along the bottom of the glass. Decent retention and poor lacing. Smells of sweet malt, slight roasted malt, and hint of hops. Fits the style of an English Porter. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp with an average carbonation level. Tastes of hops, roasted malt, slight sweet malt, and slight toffee. Overall, the best beer McGuire's had while I was there - by far.

A - Pours a semi-translucent deep brown hue, and is capped with a smallish bubbly head.

S - The nose is quite good, suggesting milk chocolate, roasted barley and toffee-caramel. There are some hops in the aroma, too, contributing some woody tones.

T - The taste is right in line with the nose. This beer tastes quite good, and seems to use a middle-of-the-road approach to its advantage, i.e. it does not offer 'huge' or 'potent' flavors or doses of anything. It offers a modicum of about everything nice you'd expect in a Porter, and not a bit more; there are roasted tones, some hints of chocolate and toffee, some astringency from both the woody hops and the roast grain, and a bit of fruity character from the yeast, all proffered in sublime moderation.

M - On the lighter side of medium; McGuires blend of CO2 and N2 is really enhancing for this brew, in particular.

O - I could drink a lot of this stuff. And at under 5% ABV, it is all the more drinkable. Also worth noting, it seems that McGuire's factors locale and geography into their interpretation of styles, to their credit. A beer that would be suitable in, say, Nova Scotia in February, would likely not be optimum for the beaches of Destin around springtime, and they seem to adjust accordingly.

Had this on draft at McGuires’s Irish Pub in Pensacola, FL. Poured a very dark brown color with nice white head that hung around a long time. Aroma was roasted malt and chocolate. Flavor was very subtle: roasted malt, chocolate, with a little nuttiness. Mouthfeel was very smooth with little carbonation. Drinkability was good.
