The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a finger’s worth of white to off white foamy head that fell off at a decent pace. Light stringy lace. The aroma had some roastiness, some milk chocolate and light tickle of some anise. The flavor blended everything together fairly nice - good sturdy sweet to good roasty tones. All seemed to blend nicely to ride on into the aftertaste and rolling into the finish. The feel was about medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Good carbonation about it. ABV felt as projected. Overall, no complaints from me. They called this "Classic" for a reason and it sure was.

Sampling a cellar temp growler poured into a snifter. The beer pours a dark cola brown with dense creamy tan head of 2 cm that fades slowly to the thinnest of edge layers. The aroma is lots of roasted malt, almost a little charred malt on the nose. The burnt note is a little prevalent but there is no hops that I pick up or any booze. Pretty straight forward nose on this beer.
The first sip reveals a silky smooth body with fine and spacious carbonation. Texture is average to some thickness and does a light coating on my palate after each sip.
Flavor is what is expected from the nose with a bit of sweet chocolate malt and this rolls to more roasted note that lingers after each swallow. The charred note that was on the nose is not present on the flavor at all. There isnt any sort of hop character on this beer and the booze is completely hidden and makes for a very drinkable beer.
I was a little put off by the charred notes on the nose but this stout is an enjoyable one that I would try again.
