Picked up a bottle of this from NFL BIF 33. the bottle was put in barrels on 6-21-2021 and bottled on 11-10-2021. I am drinking on 8-14-2022.
The beer is at cellar temp and Im pouring into my snifter. The beer pours a rich black coffee hue with no light passing through my glass. A dense creamy khaki colored head of 2 cm foams up during the pour and almost overtops my glass. The foam fades to a sturdy edge layer that leaves dense lattice when I swirl the glass.
Aroma is a rich mix of chocolate, sweetened coffee and some very faint maple character. I dont get the cinnamon that is mentioned on the label. ABV is also pretty well hidden and I dont get any hop character on this beer from the nose.
the first sip reveals a lighter body than anticipated and the carbonation and is spacious and soft, the texture is smooth and this beer drinks a little dangerous for 10% ABV.
Flavor is some sweet chocolate and sweetened coffee with a bit of caramel and some brown sugar mixing together. Here I get some maple syrup just before the finish , but still no cinnamon. Never any ABV hints and hops are absent too. This is a pretty nice imperial stout that has sweet features on the flavor profile without being cloying or candy-like. I do wish that the body was a little fuller but enjoy drinking this beer.

2023 vintage, updated with six months of barrel ageing in Kentucky Owl bourbon barrels. Pretty well balanced for a breakfast stout, without too much maple or cinnamon; I'm not a huge fan of either, so the bottle shop employee was being an honest broker when saying this was reasonable instead of being over the top. Well crafted, good oak character, with some nice earthy coffee notes overlaying the rest of the beer.

poured from a bottle into a snifter
This beer is completely black with no highlights and about a half inch of tan head that quickly recedes leaving behind very little lacing.
The aroma is all sweet milk chocolate with subtle hints of vanilla, maple, coffee, and roasted malts. Quite a sweet nose with a nice roastiness to balance it out.
The taste is very similar to the aroma. Lots of sweet chocolate, maple, coffee, and vanilla. There is also a nice roastiness that balances out the sweetness. I get just the slightest bit of booziness. Full bodied and very creamy, the carbonation is spot on.
Really this is a terrific beer, that is deceptively easy to drink. overall a great beer.

It snowed in southeast NC today, but with this 10% Imperial Milk Stout on hand, I didn’t care. Brunch with Santa was brewed in April, barreled in June and bottled in November. Would probably age very well with another two months, but even as is, it’s a sweet stout lover’s best Christmas present. Maple, coffee and cinnamon are quite noticeable; the mosaic hops, not so much. As expected, it gets even better as it warms, but the sweetness may not be for everyone. One is quite sufficient to ward off any chill. Still, if you left this out with cookies for Santa, he’d definitely linger longer at your hovel… and maybe leave a few more presents.
