Imperial stout aged in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels
All Hail the King! Rey Gordo is the icon of consistency. He is timeless. He is classic. This distinguished, larger-than-life barrel-aged stout has a smoky, leathery, dense, and mysteriously dark persona, that is loved by barrel-aged beer drinkers.

Sampling a 500 ml bottle at cellar temp poured into my snifter. Part of winnings from English Premier League last season.
The cap pops too easy and Im a little worried about seal. the beer pours jet black as night with nothing passing through the glass. Also zero carbonation, head, foam anything furthering my concern about the sealed cap.
The beer showcases nice legs on the glass when I swirl, similar to a nice merlot.
Aroma is fudge brownie, roasted malts to almost charred, a bit of vanilla and a lot of bourbon. Also does have a bit of fusol scent, reminding me of the 13.5%! No hops, also no signs of any oxidation or infection, so I think we are in the clear on the cap concerns.
First sip reveals a very thick body and smooth texture. Carbonation is almost entirely non-existent with very gentle small spacious feel. Definitely coats my palate on each sip and leaves residue on my lips too.
Flavor is what the nose (and appearance) advertise. Big dark chocolate notes and some molasses and roasted notes coming together. A bit of vanilla and a large hit of bourbon flavor. This moves to some black peppery boozy bite and a bit of warming on the swallow. No doubt this is a big boozy and bruisy beer!
I am enjoying this even though it is almost still, I dont believe that was intended and do think the cap seal was pour. but no infection or off flavors, just escaped CO2. I am giving a slightly lower look score due to no head/foam.
Very glad to have tried this one and would recommend to bourbon boozy stout lovers!

Had on tap. Pitch black body with a finger of dark brown foam. Barrel and semi-sweet chocolate lead the nose with molasses, char, and earth supporting. Taste washes over the barrel with molasses, semi-sweet chocolate, anise, vanillins, leather, a touch of smoke and char. Feel is warm and full with amazing barrel character shining through, viscous malts carry well. Wonderful ba stout without gimmicks
