A milk stout brewed with Portola Labs coffee; sounds like breakfast in a glass to me! Served on-tap at the brewery itself, on to the beer:
I'm not surprised to see a black bodied beer, though this one has a tanned head on top and solid lacing which sticks around the glass. The aroma is overwhelming coffee! And more coffee! A dose of milk adds a little diversity to the aroma, which is borderline intoxicating.
Like the aroma, the taste says "coffee". Secondary notes of mocha and lactose make this stout fun to drink without getting bogged down with those roasted black beans. With a sweet and roasty aftertaste, this is a pleasurable coffee milk stout which could work for any time of day.
