Some things in life are surprising. Derick Jeter’s gold gloves, Fergies musical career... and now this beer. Walking into this place, Raul did not expect to be godsmacked. And Raul gonna be real: he ain’t never use that word before. So like coming home to see my baby mama vacuuming, Portola Breakfast Stout is a hell of a surprise.
So, yes… do your damn thing, TBC. Do it hard.

So much coffee, and absolutely delicious. Dare I say rivals FBS? Perhaps... Cheers!

Honestly this beer was a huge surprise. I've been to this brewery many times and generally would go for their guest taps over their house beers but this one is outstanding especially when you compare it to the fairly forgettable other beers they brew. It basically tastes like a Founder Breakfast Stout clone with a bit more coffee.
L - Jet black with dense mocha head
S - In your face with coffee and roasted malts
T - Like it smells, a ton of coffee and roasty malts with a slightly bitter chocolate aftertaste
F - smooth and creamy
O - Extremely impressive and even more so from this brewery which has honestly never impressed me with any of their beers. I really wish they would start bottling this stuff so I could stock up.

Portola brand coffee + double oatmeal stout = possibly orgasmic beer. On-tap at Tustin Brewing, on to the beer:
An inch of mocha colored head rests on top this jet black liquid. Adding to the aesthetics are the grand rings of lacing that stick around the glass. Being a coffee stout, one could expect a big coffee aroma, and that is exactly what occurs. Tons of fresh coffee beans packing the nose, with a sweet and bitter roast. Very smooth as well. The beer is big as well, regarding the taste, feel, and copious quantities of coffee used. Lots of coffee tasted, a little cream. e could argue if this is really coffee or beer, but no matter how it is sliced, the taste is pleasurable. The thick and creamy mouthfeel tops off a grand finish to this Tustin Brewing masterpiece.
