The appearance of this brew is the first indication something odd is afoot: it is a deep, dark red with ruby highlights. The nitro pour ensured a nice tan head that stuck around for some time. Stouts are usually dark brown or black, right?
Aromas are cherry (both sweet and sour) and red wine. Not a typical stout aroma, for sure.
Flavor is unlike any beer style I can describe: creamy dark sour cherries with an almost evaporative finish. Almost tastes liek there's strawberries in it as well. If there is a malt character, bitterness or hop flavor, I couldn't find it.
A most unstoutlike stout, and not particularly good. The waitress told me it had been roasty and bitter when it was released for St. Patrick's Day... that means it had been on tap for about a month! I think something happened in the keg over the last 30 days...
Funny thing is, the cherry flavor would have been really nice if it had been backed up by stoutlike flavors. Oh, well... I have to rate this one on its own terms as opposed to fidelity to the style, I guess.
