Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a lightly hazy, medium coppery amber with a healthy three finger white head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, grassy and citrus hops, toffee and an unusual, unidentifiable earthy spiciness. Flavor is lightly caramel malt, dry grassy and somewhat piney hops, hops taper off to old orange juice into a quite bitter finish with pine resin with little herbal flavor. Medium bodied with light creaminess and good carbonation. The flavor was not what I expected from the aroma, which was very caramel forward. The flavor had light caramel, the hops dominate the middle taste into a thinner bodied finish with intense hop bitterness. An unusual hop bill that is dominated by alpha oil with interesting, but muted earthy pine and grassy hop flavors. The look and aroma are nice, but the flavor needs a little balance and more hop flavor to balance the bitterness.
