This decadent Milk Stout has been aged in whiskey barrels for 14 months. Notes of vanilla and oak blend with a deep, roasted caramel sweetness and a velvety smooth body to make for a delicious treat.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a nearly pitch black, appearing opaque black in the glass with a half finger dark brown head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted biscuit malt with light char, coffee, walnuts, dark chocolate, a little cardboardy oxidation. Flavor is dark toasted malt, cocoa, drip coffee, walnut and whiskey, a little astringency, like the inside of a walnut shell in the finish. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A deep, dark breakfast stout. There is coffee character here, but I cannot find out anywhere if there is actually coffee used in the brewing, although there well could be from the breakfast stout name (billed as a barrel aged, imperial milk stout). Starts very rich, but thins out a little from the barrel whiskey and ends with that mild astringency, which is not expected from a milk stout style. Looks great and has lots of character in the aroma and flavor. A promising early barrel aging project from Triceratops.
