Milk stouts are made with lactose, an unfermentable sugar that leaves a sweet flavor in the beer. We used the right combinations of Roasted, Chocolate, Black, and Special W malts to give this beer a perfect smooth flavor then added espresso beans and vanilla beans to complete the flavor profile. On-cask 11/30/2015 at the brewpub in Providence, RI served in a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a large light brown head that fades very slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains strong coffee, along with chocolate, vanilla, lactose and roasted malts.
T: The taste starts out very creamy from the lactose along with strong and sweet flavors of coffee, vanilla and chocolate. Then a very hearty roasted malt character quickly follows. The hops presence is very mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is sweet and creamy.
M: Smooth and a little crisp but a bit chalky, medium-to-heavy body, light-to-medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, slightly filling, very mild kick, good representation of style, this is a decent beer to drink for a while.
