On nitro-tap 11/30/2015 at the brewpub in Providence, RI served in a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a deep black color, with a large dense beige head that fades very slowly and leaves a very thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, some dark fruit and a touch of hops.
T: The taste starts out with some sweet flavors of chocolate, coffee, licorice and dark fruit but there’s also an odd taste which I cannot place and throws everything off. Then a hearty roasted malt character comes in. The hops presence is very mild and there isn’t much balance. The after-taste is bitter-sweet.
M: Not very smooth and not very crisp, watery even considering the fact that it was on nitro-tap, medium body, light-to-medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Not very flavorful, does not go down easily, slightly filling, good kick, not a good representation of style, there are definitely better options within the style.
