On-tap 7/5/07 at Trinity Brewhouse in Providence, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a light brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is very malty and contains chocolate, caramel and a touch of hops.
T: The taste starts out with creamy flavors of chocolate & caramel and then mild flavors of dark fruit and hops come in. The malt character is very hearty. The after-taste is bready and slightly sweet.
M: A little crisp and very smooth, medium body but light for the style, medium carbonation, slightly sticky finish.
D: Tasty, goes down very easily, not very filling unlike most Doppelbocks, good representation of style, it worth sticking with if you're in the mood for that kind of style.

My first shot with a doppelbock. Awfully sickly sweet and malty. Not usually my preference, and it does very little to hide the alcohol. Not that the alcohol is overpowering, just very noticeable. It pours a chocolate, brown with very little head. Carbonation is again very little, but that is common with many Trinity beers. Besides the malt and a slight hop taste, there are tones of nuts as well.
