On-cask 4/1/07 at Trinity Brewhouse in Providence, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.
A: After the long cascade of bubbles ends, the beer is a light reddish brown color, with a short but very dense off-white head that fades very slowly and leaves a thick even lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is sweet with caramel, vanilla and a little spice.
T: The taste is very creamy and malty, with flavors of caramel, honey & vanilla. There’s very little hops but it really isn’t needed with this beer (and that’s coming from a “hophead”). There’s a very mild alcohol burn for a beer that’s pushing 9.00% ABV, but it’s masked by the heavy sweetness that is present the whole time.
M: Very smooth with a little bit of crispness, heavy body, light carbonation, sticky finish.
D: Very tasty, goes down really easy, but quite filling, excellent representation of style, I could drink a few before the ABV catches up to me and I get too full. Overall it’s excellent beer that I enjoyed quite a bit.

Vastly superior beer pumped out of the cask. Hops were much more present and gave a subtle undertone of evergreen. Balanced outt he malts and masked the alcohol. Nose was also much thicker and wetter (if wetter makes any sense but it did when I reviewed it into my notebook). More of a creamy, thick mouthfeel. Tough to leave after one pint.
