Small and acceptable bar poured head. Settles to rim bubbles. Leaves some spots on the glass. Light ruby brown color where light passes through easily.
Very mild aroma. Nothing off putting but also no smells to really describe. Perhaps some chocolate.
The flavor is an improvement with some cocoa elements. The body is very thin. The carbonation elevated. Short aftertaste of the aforementioned cocoa. One-dimensional.

On-tap 7/26/09 at the brewpub Providence, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a thin beige head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is of roasted malts, nuts, caramel, maple and a touch of hops.
T: The taste is sweet and malty up front with flavors of caramel and maple, background flavors of nuts and some smokiness. There's a mild hops presence brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Smooth and crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
D: A little tasty, goes down easily, slightly filling, deceptively strong kick, decent representation of style, it's not a bad beer but there are better "Imperial" brown ales out there.

On-tap at the brewhouse...
An interesting style and name... Imperial brown ale? Didn't really know what to expect...
Pours a deep, dark, brown hue with a decent-sized head that exhibited adequate staying power before slowly receding...
Aroma: Rich malt-backbone in both the smell and flavor.. Hints of chocolates, dehydrated fruits, and prunes...
Taste: Strongly complemented the smell... robust roasted malts, slight chocolate, figs, prunes, dark fruits...
Creamy, rich, robust, thick mouthfeel...
