I bought this growler from the brewery as they no longer had it on tap.
Pours a dark brown with a decent amount of carbonation and a nice foamy white head. Good head retention.
Smell is some dark fruit, licorice and caramel.
Taste is lots of dark fruit, almost the same as some imperial stouts but its not that bitter and has no hop character. This stuff is very drinkable with a good deal of complexity.
Not a bad stab at this style and I really felt it was a great beer. Good job Trinity!

On-tap 12/28/08 at the brewpub, served in a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a deep black color, with a short brown head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is of dark malts, dark chocolate, dark fruit and a faint touch of hops.
T: The taste is very malty but nicely balanced at first with flavors of dark chocolate and dark fruit. There's a mild hops presence but the bitterness comes mostly from the chocolate malt and it remains in a strong after-taste that throws everything off.
M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium-to-heavy body, light-to-medium carbonation, finish is sticky and dry.
D: A little tasty, goes down ok, slightly filling, good kick, decent representation of style, it can be a somewhat poundable porter if you can get past the dry bitterness and it's got some good strength to it, but I've definitely had better in the style.
