On-tap 5/17/09 at the brewpub Providence, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a dark brown color, large light brown head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is of Belgian yeast, roasted malts, chocolate, caramel and a touch of hops.
T: The taste is malty up front with flavors of chocolate, nuts and caramel but not overly sweet. There's a good Belgian yeast backbone. The hops presence is mild but brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.
M: Smooth and crisp, medium-to-heavy body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
D: Flavorful, goes down easily, slightly filling, good kick, decent representation of style, nice beer to drink if you're in the mood for a dark Belgian-style beer that isn't over-powering.
