I've been happy to see this back on tap at the Brewhouse in the past month. I'm not sure whether what they're offering now is technically a distinct beer from the Barley Wine 2010. The current Barley Wine is described as barrel-aged.

Served in a standard pint glass, the Barley Wine displays virtually no head. The color is darkly coppery, amber-ish, with a significant cloudiness. The aroma is directly sweet with the malt presence predominating.

The taste is indeed delightful. I find this to be one of Trinity's finest brews. The oak aging definitely adds a lot of positive character to this ale. Notes of vanilla co-mingle quite nicely with bourbonesque flavors. It is an intensely full-bodied beer, and infinitely drinkable.

On-tap 1/17/11 at the brewpub Providence, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a dark reddish brown color, short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains caramelized malts, a lot of alcohol, bourbon, brown sugar, some hops and a touch of fruit, but overall kind of smells like varnish.

T: The taste starts out very sweet with flavors of brown sugar, bourbon and caramel coupled with a strong burst of alcohol. The malt character is very hearty and the hops presence is very mild but brings some balance. The after-taste is very sweet.

M: Smooth and a little crisp, medium-to-heavy body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: A little tasty, goes down ok, slightly filling, strong kick, decent representation of style, tough beer to drink for an extended period of time and there are better within the style.
