I can't believe this beer wasn't listed yet. (I'm first) Had it on tap 8/13/11 at the brewpub and picked up a growler on the way out.
According to the sign above the bar it was named C4 because it is brewed with both 4 types of "C" hops. (My notes say, Chinook Centenial, Cascade and one more with only 5 or 6 letters that I can't make out), but also when it was brewed the hops exploded during fermentation, hence C4.
Pours a orange/reddish body with an off-white head. Looks almost identical to the Trinity RI IPA although maybe just a little bit cloudier.
Nose is amazing with a strong citric hop resin smell. A little earthy Not a strong malt smell, but the fresh mix of hops really dominate.
Taste is a good medium to almost full bodied. Very slick and big in the mouth. Not a pallate killer at first. Loads of hops, fresh fresh fresh citric hops with a strong lean towards the hop resin and grapefruit peel sort of flavor. No real pepper or other normal citric flavors, it's really more resin. There's a strong malt background, and you can taste the caramel with a nice roasted red ale flavor. Bitterness isn't over the top at all. Balanced, but not over the top. Like I said, in no way a pallate killer. Ends with a nice lingering citric bitterness.
This beer is right up there with some amazing Red beers. Reminds me of a cross between Great Divide's Hercules and Founders Red Rye, but super fresh. It's definitely an Imperial Red Ale at 7.5%, but oh so drinkable. Another simply amazing beer from Trinity, way to go Sean.
