Drank from a can purchased at Fort Point Market, Boston, MA
Served in a tulip
The beer poured a neon colored crimson hue with chunks of strawberry pieces. A thin, frothy, light pink film capped the liquid, but it quickly dissolved. There was no lacing whatsoever.
The aroma was strawberry, strawberry and more strawberry. An interesting blend between real and artificial strawberry notes. Strawberry soda came to mind. Some tart, freshly picked strawberry was noticeable as well. Perhaps a hint of creamy strawberry ice cream too.
The flavor was all strawberry as well, but it seemed sweeter and somewhat more artificial than the nose. Strawberry Gushers were apparent. Very candy like for sure. Quite tart and tangy, especially as the beer moved along the palate. The beer finished with lingering sweet-tart strawberry notes that made my teeth hurt.
The mouthfeel was pretty disappointing. It was medium bodied and lacking in carbonation to the point of almost seeming flat. I was anticipating this to be super carbed to make it drink like a strawberry soda.
As with Spanish Marie’s Miami Punch, this beer is a novelty and best drank in small quantities. Is it good for what it is? Sure. Would I choose to drink it again? No.
