On-tap at Mugs Alehouse, Brooklyn, NY
A: The beer is very dark brownish red in color (black when viewed from afar) and has no visible carbonation.
S: Moderate aromas of dark fruits are present in the nose—plums seem to stand out in particular.
T: The taste has very strong flavors of dark fruits—plums and grapes with hints of raisins—and also has strong notes of candi sugars.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a bit smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: It seems like this beer could have more in the way of dark fruits in the smell and taste.
Serving type: on-tap

Drinking Fifth Hammer’s latest at the taproom.
Pours a dark brown, nearly black and slightly ruby color. A big lathery and creamy head rises to the top, yet dissipates halfway through.
Toasty aromas of dark toasted bread, raisins and plum. There is also a light aroma of alcohol.
The taste is vinous and fruity, with flavors of red grapes, raisins, plum, and currants. There is also a hint of dark chocolate. I do not get as much of the toasty and bready quality from the aroma. Sweet but with a subtle spicy balance from the yeast.
Medium bodied to full with a soft carbonation. Wine like, smooth, creamy and with a light alcohol warmth in the finish.
Solid representation of the style.
