On tap at Fifth Hammer, Queens, NY. Collaboration between Fifth Hammer and Rockaway Brewing.
Pours a clear red/dark amber color and a sizable fluffy creamy foam head. Decent retention; once it dissipates, it leaves saucer like rings of lace.
Aroma highlights English malts; nutty and biscuity, caramel and toffee, even a hint of slightly burnt hay. Dark fruit such as prune and raisin add another layer of aroma.
The taste highlights the rich malt base, nutty, biscuity, sweet, sticky, and full in texture. The mid palate brings forth dark fruit, brown sugar, and sherry. Bold hops presence and rye provides a moderate bitterness and subtle spice. The finish brings out the hops; bitter, dry, tea like, tobacco, and earthy.
Medium to full bodied, very drinkable. Moderate carbonation. Nicely balanced.
Fantastic Barleywine from two great local breweries.
