On-tap at Fifth Hammer Brewing, Long Island City, NY

A: The beer is brown when viewed from afar but dark amber when held up to the light. It poured with a narrow collar of off white bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of dark malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of dark malts and a bit of nuts.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer seems to be maltier compared to other beers in the style but doesn't have any sweetness.

On tap at Fifth Hammer, NYC. Happy to add it to the database.

Pours a dark mahogany color with a well retaining tan head. Elegant and good looking brew.

The nose opens with woody and earthy hops. Soon, aromas of spicy rye come to the forefront. They compliment the nutty malt base, which also features notes of chocolate.

The taste opens with sweet and mouth coating notes of chocolate malts. The medium to full body highlights a robust malt fullness and bright amber malts that are balanced by woody earthy hops, a hint of fruit and a touch of roasted malt. The overall bitterness develops throughout. Furthermore, notes of rye add a prevalent spice. The carbonation is mellow and on par with the smoothness of the mouthfeel. The long finish is dry and offers plenty of roasted malt and hops bitterness.

What a fun and tasty brown ale! Happy to see a microbrewery producing a solid interpretation of this unsung style.
