Appearance: Pours like a real Belgian, with a huge head that billows atop the somewhat hazy golden liquid; strong retention and splashy lacing

Smell: Spice cake with honey and pear and a hint of kumquat

Taste: Lemon infusted spice cake with developing tones of honey and pear; through the middle, the kumquat emerges to provide some balancing bitterness

Mouthfeel: Medium body with hgh carbonation

Overall: Fifth Hammer has hit it out of the park with this Belgian Blonde, a style most domestic brewers flub if they even try it at all

16oz can

A pretty standard pour shoots out of the can and explodes over the sides of my Willi glass, a pretty annoying start, but whatever. Nearly 4 fingers of head remain after that debacle. Retention is high. Initial lacing looks thick. Body is a cloudy dark orange, with, unsurprisingly, an insane amount of bubbles coming up. Looks good despite my irritation.

Nose is lovely. Light esters, floral notes, hints of perfume, baked bread, candi sweetness, and faint spicy notes make for a full aroma that smells amazing. I’m loving this.

Flavor does not disappoint. Huge malty sweetness, supported by those floral notes and subtle spice, a touch candi in the finish. Not very complex, and the nose may have had a tiny bit more depth, but it works well none the less.

Carbonation is extremely high. Body is light, but drinks closer to medium weight because of the malt and sugar. Despite the substantial sweetness throughout, at no point is it cloying, and it actually finishes with a brief dryness. Bitterness is not noticeable. The mouthfeel works surprisingly well.

Drinkability is not an issue, this is tasty and unoffensive.

Appearance turned out pretty odd. The head lingered for quite a ways down the glass, impressive retention, even if it’s expected with the style and carbonation. That said, the lacing was very lazy, and took quite a while to grab on; unusual considering the powerful head. All things considered, not bad.

Overall a very enjoyable beer. Full of flavor, big, well done.
