Appearance: On draft at the brewery. Stemmed tulip. Coca-Cola color with a huge dusty frothy head. Tons of lacing and long retention.
Aroma: Dark fruit juice (cherry, plum, raw cranberry, etc). A touch of tropical fruit, especially as it warms up. Red wine tannins. A lot of complexity on the nose.
Taste: The tongue and nose are very close to each other. Malt sweetness. Red wine. Cherry juice. The fruit juices are unsweetened and therefore bitter, which lends slightly towards the IPA style. However, whatever sweetness exists still overpowers the bitterness, ten fold.
Feel: Good carbonation, very crisp. Dry. Sticky. The high alcohol is detected mostly on the feel, interestingly enough.
Overall: The style has a lot of leeway, so the guidelines open up this beer to a lot of interpretation. There is a ton of complexity which changes with the temperature. The high alcohol content isn't noticed initially but rears its ugly head near the bottom of the glass. The ABV shouldn't be a huge problem though because this beer isn't a chugger.
