"Eikkimm IPA" from Park Gida. 330ml brown glass bottle served in Istanbul. Cost was ~15 lira. Reviewed from notes taken in May 2016.
5.00% ABV.
Pours a pale red body, clear, with a foamy and thin off-white cap atop. No yeast/lees are visible within the body. I'm surprised by the reddish tint this has, but at least it seems well filtered.
Smells like an Amber. Toasted malt, amber malt, bread crust, floral hop character. A bit too sweet, with a nod towards artificial cherry flavouring/puree. Definitely fruity, but it ain't coming from the hops. Not as assertively hoppy as the style tends to demand. Aromatic intensity is average. Suggests a cloyingly sweet brew with an inadequate hop presence.
Taste follows the aroma, with too much sweetness (especially on the finish) and I'll enough hops. Even the cherry puree is there. Not sure what they were after with this one. Drinks closer to an amber than anything else.
Mouthfeel is oddly coarse and dry, lending it a parching presence on the palate. Unrefreshing, medium-bodied.
Overall, it's subpar fare, which isn't a shock given the brewery behind it. Those excited to chance across an IPA in Turkey will be let down. Even considered an amber ale, it's lackluster. I can't decide if the taste or the texture is more harmful to the beer...
