A: Pours a clear but dark amber/mahogany color. A two finger beige head forms with good retention. Excellent lace is left down the glass.
S: A beautifully subtle and deceptive nose. Pretty much all malt, with an amazing baked bread aroma with a nutty toasted character as well. Light grains, light earthy hops in the background. Though a malty character that I find amazing and hard to find in many American representations, which is pretty hard style to find in the first place.
T: Like the nose, the malt character at first seems subtle and simple, but continues to grow. Starts out with toasted and grainy malts. Then the wonderful baked bread and nutty character takes over. Maybe just a touch earthy, which might be some faint hop flavor. Though all wonderful malts are the show as should be the case. So warm and inviting, as well as amazingly moreish.
M/O: With the alcohol content, this is certainly light, but ridiculously smooth. Enough carbonation to satisfy, and the smoothness is great. Along with being supper clean and dry. I think being on cask would put this over the top. Though as is, I gulped down three pints without a problem. So yeah, this is something really drinkable, not only that but this keeps me interested pint after pint. As true session beers do.
I just love the malt character that Holler has created with not only their English styles, but German as well. There is a depth that I find few breweries can match. This Mild is outstanding in that sense, and can only wish they put this on cask in the near future. As really good English representation of the style is few and far between, this is a winner and I can't say enough good things about true amazing session beers being available locally.
