Appearance: Arrives a cloudy russet color with a modest head that leaves spots of lacing
Smell: Caramel, stone fruit, earthy hop and Rye whiskey barrel
Taste: Caramel and stone fruit forward, with earthy bitterness building; the rye barrel flavors surge forward, in the middle, and, along, with the bitterness, dominate the finish
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation; warmth in the gullet
Overall: An interesting twist to age the barleywibe in rye barrels but the flavors don’t blend as harmoniously as I would like

Poured from tap into sniffer, 1 finger head, good retention epic lacing. Dark mber in the glass. Smells of whiskey, sweet caramel and citrus. Taste follows the nose, good rye whiskey, caramel, toffee and some faint citrus coming thru the middle. Nice sharp bitter finish. Great BA beer, think it is their first, nailed it. Think I am becoming a homer for this brewery.

This is a Bourbon Barrel aged version of their Shot Caller Barleywine
A: Pours a dark brown with some ruby around the edges. A one finger beige head forms and recedes after a minute. A film of lace is left behind.
S: A bit muddled at first. I get big wood, then toasted malts, chocolate and vanilla. Not much else in the nose, fairly simple but enjoyable.
T: Starts off with a big and deep chocolate flavor. Wood/oak and vanilla come next. Which mingles with toasted and bread like malts. Herbal hops in the finish. Very nice, and for no additives/flavorings, the chocolate and vanilla flavors are really impressive.
M/O: A full body with moderate carbonation. That is still fairly crisp, but ultra smooth at the same time. Finishes slightly sticky and sweet. A big warming sipper, but the alcohol is nowhere. Something I can sip on all night.
At first, this seemed a little muddled, even dirty. Though as this warms, all the nuances come together, and the very deep chocolate, vanilla, and wood is the show. Another solid barrel aged offering from Holler.
