A: Pours a near opaque brown color. A two finger tan head forms with good retention. Plenty of lace is left behind.
S: Hops are pretty apparent in the nose. With pine and resin, slightly earthy and floral. Then the malts take over. Baked bread and chocolate. While the hops are there, especially up front, this is very well balanced with traditional malts that I really enjoy.
T: Malts are much more up front here. Toasted malts, baked bread, chocolate, toffee. All intermingle with the hop profile. That is a bit pine and resin like. Well balanced with good bitterness lingering. I like it a lot.
M/O: A medium to full body. Crisp carbonation that is ultra smooth at the same time. Really easy to drink. Something I can come back to again and again.
I am always apprehensive when a brewery says they are doing a "hoppy brown ale" as the hops can tend to just take over. While the hops are present, and very much noticeable. They are also really well balanced with a great malt character. Actually, perfectly named as this is a great throwback to the old school brown ale made by almost every "microbrewery" of the past. I really enjoy this, and hope to see it on a good rotation at the brewery and bars around town.
