A: Pours a near opaque black color. A dense tan head rises to two fingers with excellent retention and plenty of lace.
S: Big roasted malt up front. Chocolate, coffee, a bit of char and molasses. Fairly standard as it should be. Could use a bit more nuance for my tastes but still very enjoyable.
T: Like the nose, the roasted malt is pretty much the only thing here. Chocolate, coffee, roast, char, molasses. Finishes on a bitter note. Very enjoyable if not particularly challenging.
M/O: A full body and good carbonation. Ultra smooth at the same time. The alcohol is almost nonexistent. Enjoyable and easy to drink, I have come back to this several times since it was released. Even in the dead of Houston summer I can tell this is a good one.
All the roasty goodness you would expect from this straight forward stout. I like it, old school like Deschutes Obsidian. And like Looyah Milk Stout, I will probably come to enjoy this more and more each time I have it.
