Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a hazy, medium golden amber with a fine, two finger white head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of mildly grainy malt, strawberries, summer herbs (smells more like thyme than basil), lightly earthy. Flavor follows, with saison yeast, lightly grainy malt, basil (once again tastes somewhat more like thyme or summer savory), strawberries. Medium bodied with sharp, peppery carbonation. This is just about the epitome of a summer, rustic farmhouse ale. The earthy basil resembles summer herbs, the strawberries are subtle, but genuine, all supported by a classic mildly grainy farmhouse base. This is really nice and beautifully done. I'm not sure I would have ever thought about basil and strawberries together, but they are great. These guys are doing a fantastic job on rustic, but non-sour farmhouse ales. Just what I'm looking for.
