Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a hazy, medium to dark orange brown with a ton of particulates actively dancing in active carbonation and a fine, one finger ivory head with tiny red specks; looks interesting. Aroma of lightly grainy malt, oak and oaky vanilla, a hint of cherry. Flavor is neutral malt with slight grain, tart cherry, orange and oaky vanilla. Finishes with tart cherry and and orange rind. Medium bodied with sharp carbonation. A unique ale that really doesn't fit in any category. Apparently a brown ale body aged in oak barrels with cherry and orange peel, the base ale is barely recognizable. The cherry and oak are the dominant flavors. It tastes to me like a hybrid between a cherry kriek and a Flanders red. Not as sour as a typical American wild ale, it has the light to moderate tartness of a Flanders fruit ale. The oak is very nice and won my heart in this interesting rustic ale that is a bit on the sour side for my tastes (but well within the range of wild and sour ales). This looked very unusual, smelled intriguing and tasted interesting. Nicely done.
