Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a hazy, medium golden amber with a three finger white head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of lightly grainy malt, apple, clove and pepper. Flavor is grainy malt, clove, pepper, apple juice, orange zest, light grassy hops and vague mixed stone fruit. Spicy, grainy finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Not surprisingly for this rustic oriented brewery, the base here has some saison yeast and grain character, although the overall flavor and spicing is fairly authentic Belgian tripel. The farmhouse saison flavors mesh nicely with the tripel elements. A bit more hopped than traditional too, but lightly done and fits the overall rustic flavor. I liked this saison based tripel quite a bit. Well done.
