First Roast from Chapman Crafted Beer. 16 fl oz can from @2beerdogs in NBW BIF 17. Reviewed 04/05/23 (Review 3091). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 44.7 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 51.6 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.25
First pour – Amber Brown (SRM 18), clear.
Body – Ruby Brown (SRM 24), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear lite, still opaque but ruby at the edges.
Head: Average (Maximum 3.5 cm, aggressive center pour), wheat, medium density, average retention, reducing to an undulating 0.7 – 0.9 cm crown fed by carbonation and a rocky complete cap.
Lacing – Fair. Badly torn curtain.
Aroma – 4 – A little roasted malt, a little chocolate, weak coffee. No hops, no yeast. No ethanol (6.1 % ABV as marked on the label) aroma.
Flavor – 4.25 – Mild coffee with a hint of chocolate. Never bitter. No hops, no malt, no yeast. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. No gastric warming.
Palate – 3.75 – Medium; watery; soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4 (After deducting 0.25 point for an undated personal container) Not much to say – basically coffee with a bit of chocolate, and, according to the label, a couple of shots of alcohol. I’d call it a coffee drink, but I wouldn’t call it a beer.

16oz can with no visible dating. Opened 4/5/20.
3 finger tan head on a dark brown/black porter...lightest brown edges towards the bottom. Fantastic retention and a great looking beer. Full lacing.
Smooth coffee aroma over roasty malts and a hint of dark fruit. Cream and a very light smoke in the nose.
Strong but again smooth coffee with chicory flavor. Café au lait. Rich and full flavored. Dark chocolate. Hint of roasted malt bitterness along with what I perceive to be a touch of grassy/spicy bittering hop.
Medium body, smooth mouthfeel, carbonation is appropriate.
Long finish, smooth and flavorful porter, at 6.1% a person could have a few.
Very good to Outstanding.

This one is pretty much like Tiger Woods before things hit the proverbial fan. Like, when he lined up for a putt, he sank it. And right here with First Roast, we have ourselves a birdie. It’s just damn smooth with balanced coffee flavors. That’s it. It’s not wild. It’s not robust. It’s just good.
Peace!
