1L howler from the brewpub - a corn and rice malt 'Mexican lager', which seems to be a thing of late. Oh, and I'm guessing it's difficult to add Spanish diacritics here when, um, rating on a so-called smartphone, eh?
This beer pours a glassy, pale golden straw colour, with one thick finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and well-bubbly bone white head, which leaves some random streaky islet lace around the glass as it evenly sinks away.
It smells of crackery and biscuity pale malt, corn grits, a mild earthy yeastiness, subtle apple and underripe pear fruity notes, a touch of wet cardboard, and some plain leafy, herbal, and grassy green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy pale malt, more weird but expected corny breakfast cereal, some blended apple, pear, and muted citrus fruitiness, a lesser meaty yeasty character than that in the nose, and a sense of grassy, weedy, and floral verdant hoppiness that has yet to find a place in this world.
The carbonation is adequate in its palate-supporting frothiness, the body a solid medium weight, and mostly smooth, with perhaps just a hint of hop intransigence interfering, as such here. It finishes off-dry, the mixed base malt and lingering Saaz hops making for a nice late-night show.
Overall, this comes across as one of the better versions of this lager sub-style (AAL or EPL? Hard to say, really), generally due to the addition of some sexy old-school (ahoj, Petrou!) Czech hops. Nothing that will blow your beer geek-addled mind, but a satisfying lighter brew to enjoy with some post-shitty day frozen pizza, yeah?
