12oz sleeve at the bewpub. A 'hybrid Ale' - warm fermentation, lager yeast, yadda yadda yadda (or is it 'yee yee yee' now?).
This beer appears a slightly hazy, medium golden yellow colour, with one skinny finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly dirty white head, which leaves some decent Pangaea profile lace around the glass as things evenly march on.
It smells of gritty and grainy cereal malt, a hint of musty yeastiness, faint muddled pome fruity notes, and some ephemeral earthy, weedy, and dead floral hoppiness. The taste is bready and crackery pale malt, underripe pears, still musty yeast esters, and more restrained leafy, herbal, and musky floral hop bitters.
The carbonation is adequate in its palate-pleasing frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with nothing making waves at this point in the game. It finishes off-dry, the malt keeping a tight hold on the lingering reins.
Overall - this does come off as a typical craft blonde ale, with the aforementioned caveat of yeast employment. At any rate, these are built to please, and not overly impress, which is pretty much my feeling at the moment, i.e. a sunny late winter brew, for checking out the pothole stricken streets in the cityscape just outside the window right now.
