Serious molasses character like a home brew porter I once made. It smells of blackstrap rum and raw molasses. The color is lighter than most modern porters. Some alcohol hits and the flavor doesn’t get much beyond the sugar cane theme.
After asking, this is a barrel-aged maple porter. Through that lens the aroma makes more sense; the booze is from the barrel and the distortion from the barrel having been used for syrup after bourbon. They didn’t quite stick this one. A bigger beer was probably warranted as this is all barrel so that it turns molasses and soy sauce.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
