Having this one on-tap at the brewery, this beer draws a very dark brown/black color that's not interested in letting in any light whatsoever with a brown foamy head that's about an inch thick when first poured. Head settles to a medium sized ring lining the inside of the glass with light lacing. Strong aromas of cocoa, coffee, and toasted malt caramel along with a hint of whiskey. The taste is pretty much the same, with big chocolate and roasted caramel malt sweetness upfront that gives way to roasted black coffee bitterness rounded out with a strong oaked whiskey hint. Not really any discernible hop presence here, and that's just fine. A really good balance of flavors and an absolutely fantastic flavor profile overall here. Has a very crisp, yet somewhat smooth, frothy, and creamy full bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. The flavors really like to linger for a long time on the tongue and inside the mouth after each sip. A very, very good beer.
