Served on-tap in a standard pint glass, this beer draws a very dark brown, almost black color that's not interested in letting in any light whatsoever. Has a creamy looking, tan head that's about 2/3 of an inch thicknesses first poured that eventually settles to a thick film layer coating of foam on the beer's surface along with a think ring lining the inside of the glass and excellent lacing. Aromas of roasted caramel and chocolate malts long with a hint of black coffee. The taste is pretty much the same, with roasted caramel and chocolate malt sweetness and some black coffee bitterness. Also has a definite bit of a lactate like quality. Finishes out with a slight earthy hop bitterness. Has a crisp and slightly prickly, slightly grainy, yet smooth, medium to full bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Has a slightly dry aftertaste and a clean finish. All around a very good beer here.
