Got this one at the Duvel guy I think. Cheers!
From a bottle into a snifter
APPEARANCE: Clear brown pour yields a 2+ finger, medium looking, foamy, light tan head with great retention. Head slowly fades to a full foam cap and clings to the glass. Clear bistre brown body and medium levels of carbonation.Half wisp remains leaving some decent lacing down the glass. Too light in color for the style but the head is decent.
SMELL: Lots of roasted barley, cacao powder, sweet cream and leather notes. Quite nice.
TASTE: Lots of roasted barley up front with notes of cream and caramel. More roasted flavors at the swallow with a big and lingering finish of sweet cream, leather, lots of cacao powder and plenty of roasted grains. A good dose of bitterness here as well. Quite roasted, bitter and powdery.
PALATE: Medium body and slightly higher levels of carbonation. Smooth on the palate, creamy enough, though a touch foamy as well, goes down fine and finishes slightly dry. A good deal of bitterness lingers.
OVERALL: Good stuff! Lots of nice flavor and aroma with a decent look and feel to support it. I would personally prefer a touch less carbonation for the style, but that's just nit picking, really. Something worth checking out if you happen to see it. Cheers!
