Pours amber, closer to a red ale.

Barrels shine on the nose, bringing fruity marzipan, toffee, and orange. A little washed out on the tongue.

Appearance: a dark red orange sunset, a thin white head that leaves a good lacing
Smell: The red wine barrels shine here. Sharp tang of red wine aromas, with a Pinot noir bouquet. Some passion fruit and citrus on the nose, and a hint of caramel sweetness.
Taste: extremely complex flavors of red wine (raspberries, cherries, plums) with a slight lemon tang that is balanced by a caramel sweetness, and lots of alcohol heat on this one. Some oak comes through.
Mouthfeel: medium, sticky, a little oily, with a dry bitterness and carbonation that cleanses the palate.
Overall: excellent barleywine!
