On draught poured into a tulip.
As expected for a high ABV barleywine, it was an extremely malty poir with minimal head. Reddish amber in color, a very attractive brew.
The nose alerts you of the high ABV goodnees you're about to experience. All malt, with a hint of the rum barrel aging tingling in your olfactory.
Initial mouthfeel is BIG. It's pretty sweet on the tongue, as is to be expected for > 11%. The taste is complex, with a molasses flavor dominating. Several other flavors hit you with each subsequent sip. There's certainly a barrel aged flavor going on, in a very good way.
Real Ale did a wonderfull job with this. If you want to pair the barleywine with food, you might try a moist and spicy carrot cake.
