From the award winning Mysterium Verum barrel series — When a Russian Imperial Stout is aged in freshly dumped Real Spirits whiskey barrels, do illicit activities occur? The truth is, no one knows exactly what happens in the dark, behind the oaken walls. What we do know is that the remarkable co-mingling of two superpowers produces an ale that is layered with the subtleties of vanilla, coconut, oak, and dark chocolate. It is a bold expression only achieved through a synergistic relationship, developed over a long period of time. When you taste it, you are convinced, it must be nefarious. Better to have another round, just to be sure.

On tap at home as part of a Covid19 Real Ale quarter keg twofer (the other being the Octoberfest).
Reviewed tonight, 28 Oct 2020.
Poured in a Real Ale snifter (the one with the ridiculously tiny base that seems in danger of tipping over if you look at it crooked). Large light brown head quickly dissipates. Moderately carbonated. Nearly black in color with dark brown highlights. Nose is vanilla, alcohol, some chocolate. Lots of cocoa to start, vanilla again, some oak. Slightly warming but not hot. Lightly roasty bitter finish lingers. Body is on the lighter side, relatively. I suspect this was better a year ago.
Nice, but a six ounce pour is about the max I can handle in one sitting. This keg is gonna last forever...
