This barleywine is brewed to combat the bitter chill of Maine winters. It is a malty delight with heavy notes of caramel and toffee that are balanced by a robust dose of East Kent Golding and Mt. Hood hops. Aged in French oak Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels for an extra oaky kick. The resulting brew is strong enough to melt the ice on your windshield, but would be much better used to warm you soul on a frosty winter night.

Larger head with some staying power. Moderate streaks for lace. Muddy (cloudy) light brown color.
Sour cherry nose with some mild alcohol.
Darker, boozy malt flavor up front. I get a very light sourness in the background. Strong alcohol presence. Naturally fuller body (typical for the style) but with a high carbonation (not typical). There's a decent dollop of bittering hop which shows up in the swallow. Alcohol warmth is the last remaining flavor in the aftertaste.

From the 375 ml. bottle with a 2016 vintage date. Sampled on July 9, 2017.
The pour tends to be slightly murky bit it is brown amber under a modest, lingering tan head.
The aromas go to town with caramel, toffee, dark fruits, yeasty notes, crackers, and wood. I did not pick up any alcohol for 10% but mine may be a year old.
Smooth, medium to heavy body.
Bold malt sweetness in the taste with a warming finish. My head feels the alcohol but my mouth does not taste it. This has mellowed well.
