Sampling a growler from a recent visit and fill at the brewery. I am pouring a chilled growler into a chalice. The beer pours a deep dark cola brown with a creamy, densely packed tan head of 3 cm foaming up in my glass and fading to a sturdy surface layer. tight lattice clings to my glass after each sip.
Aroma is some roasted malt and a pretty strong dose of sweet chocolate. No hint of the higher ABV on this big stout and I actually dont get too much of a hop nose on a well hopped stout. That being said the nose is appealing and encourages me to take a big sip from my glass.
That sip reveals a silky smooth texture with very fine and tingly carbonation that rolls across my palate. The body is average to a little thick, but the overwhelming physical trait s the smoothness of this beer.
Flavor is as the nose advertised with some sweet chocolate malt and a little bit of roasted note mixing together. I dont get hops on the flavor really either and the booze is dangerously well hidden on this easy drinking stout. The finish leaves a slightly sweet sticky residue on my tongue and actually dries me out a bit. the lingering flavor is roasted malt and a bit of sweetened coffee.
I enjoy this beer quite a lot and would recommend to any of those "maltys" out there.
Nice work Hanging Hills!
