Sampling a cold growler poured into a snifter. Picked up at the brewery today during the Houston fundraiser. $12,202 raised today, nice work Hanging Hills!
The beer pours a rich chocolate brown color with a creamy khaki colored head of 2 cm foaming up with an easy pour. The foam remains as a sturdy edge layer and some wispy islands even after the pour.
The aroma of the beer is lots of roasted malt and dark chocolate, and maybe a little brown sugar. No hop presence that I can detect on the nose and this is not a boozy smelling beer either.
First sip reveals a very fine carbonation that gently rolls across my palate. The beer is medium bodied and there is a silky texture which makes this a physically appealing beer.
Flavor is roasted malt and some dark chocolate. There is a little bit of astringency from a baker's chocolate kind of flavor. I still dont get any hops and the booze is very well hidden on this beer, but I do start to feel it about half way through the growler.
This is a nice roasty malt forward brew that drinks very easy. If you are looking for an IPA break this makes a good choice from our friends in Hartford.
