Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into a snifter. Picked up a can at the brewery release today 11-24-2017.
The beer pours a rich cola and cocoa brown color with creamy dense tan head of 2cm foaming up after my gentle pour.
The aroma is rich and malt driven with a solid hit of bourbon and vanilla. Some light roasted malt and a bit of dark chocolate, but no hops and no hints of the booze on the nose.
First sip reveals a silky smooth textured beer with very fine and slightly tingly carbonation. The body is a little lighter than anticipated but works just fine with the complete picture.
The flavor is exactly what I expected on the nose of this bourbon barrel aged brew. Some dark chocolate and roasted malt start the flavor profile, and this rolls to some sweet bourbon and vanilla hits. There is some lingering sweet sticky coating and bourbon flavor on my palate after each swallow. I dont find any hops on this beer anywhere and the booze is very well hidden, although just a bit of warmth comes through after each swallow.
This is a very solid barrel aged imp stout and the price point is great too. I also love the clean label on the can. Definitely worth stopping by Hanging Hills to grab on draft while available and cans as they last.
